Week Two 

INITIAL IDEA FOR COMPONENT TWO

For component two of the assignment, I have decided to research Marcel Duchamps Fountain. I have chosen this case study because I think it will contain some interesting complexities that directly relate to the readings we have been doing. I beleive Fountain to be ultimately a post-modern artwork, however, it was created during the early stages of modernism, which make it very radical for the time and also a emergent idea. It is also interesting because a urinal is ultimately a modernist piece of design, the form is dictated by the function, however Duchamp places it in a post-modern context. I think there are some interesting ideas surrounding this that Duchamp himself was probably not aware of. I intend to begin research on this.
